The Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on Monday recommended names of eight advocates for appointment as judges in the Karnataka High Court.

The Collegium, also comprising Justices S A Bobde and N V Ramana, decided to recommend Savanur Vishwajith Shetty, Singapuram Raghavachar Krishna Kumar, Maralur Indrakumar Arun, Mohammed Ghouse Shukure Kamal, Ashok Subhashchandra Kinagi, Govindaraj Suraj, Engalaguppe Seetharamaiah Indiresh, and Sachin Shankar Magadum for appointment as judges.

The decision was made after taking into consideration relevant materials and consultation with judges who originally hailed from the Karnataka High Court, the Collegium said.

The then Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court had recommended the names of the nine advocates on May 25, 2018, in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues after taking the concurrence of Karnataka Chief Minister and the Governor.

Of the nine names, the Collegium, however, preferred to remit recommendation of Smt Bangalore Vasudevaiah Vidyulatha before the high court after considering "all relevant factors and the material placed in the file."

Among others, the Collegium recommended names of advocates Conrad Stansilaus Dias, Mohammed Nias C P, and K K Paul for appointment as judges of the Kerala High Court.

Similarly, it recommended the names of advocates Avinash G Gharote, N B Suryawanshi, Madhav Jamdar, Anil Kilor, and Milind Narendra Jadhav, for appointment as judges of the Bombay High Court.

However, names of advocates Avinash S Deshmukh, Manjari Dhanesh Shah, J R Shah, and Devidas Pangam, were remitted back. The recommendation of advocate Abhay Kumar Ahuja for his elevation was deferred, awaiting certain information from the Chief Justice of
the Bombay High Court.
