During the much-awaited and most grand festival of the year in the twin cities, around 944 community Ganapathi idols would be installed on Ganesh Chaturthi day on September 13, and a maximum of them, 290 idols, would be immersed on the fifth day of the festival.

According to police officials, 653 community Ganapathi idols would be installed in various places in Hubballi, while 291 idols would be installed in Dharwad.

Idols would be immersed in the first, third, fifth, seventh, ninth, and 11th day, and the celebrations would conclude with the immersion of bigger idols on September 17.

In a Ganapthi Festival-Moharrum harmony meet organised by the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissionrate here on Thursday, Police Commissioner M N Nagaraj asked all Ganesha Mandalies to follow guidelines, to maintain safety and peace.

'Extra bundobust'

"Awareness level about not using PoP idols with chemical colours, not to use loud DJ, and to take out a procession in day hours has increased this time. Extra police would be deployed for the festival. As Moharrum would also come on the ninth day of Ganesh festival, separate timings would be fixed for processions," Nagaraj added.

MP Pralhad Joshi stressed the need to say no to PoP idols which are banned, and to celebrate the festival culturally and eco-friendly. He also advised people not to consume alcohol during the celebrations.

Single-window system

Deputy Commissioner Deepa Cholan noted that a single-window system has been introduced to issue permissions to Ganesh Mandals, and roads would be repaired before the festival.

DCP B S Nemagouda noted that police are convincing Ganesh Mandals to follow guidelines and not to have big size idols.

Shri Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swamiji of Mooruvsairamutt gave the message of peace and harmony.

Maulana Tajuddin Khadri, Fr S H Ullagaddi, Gyani Major Singh, former minister A M Hindsageri, former MLC Mohan Limbikai, former M P I G Sanadi, and others were present.
