Some people are conspiring against the Ahinda movement by trying to suppress the movement and creating confusion among the people, said Ahinda Okkuta founder president T P Ramesh.

He was speaking during the Ahinda Okkuta meeting in Madikeri on Saturday.

“We have to face the challenges posed by the miscreants. The community leaders should work towards the development and progress of the community. We have to fight for the facilities under one roof. We should not engage in pulling each other’s leg, which is of no use,” he said.

There is a need to revive the Ahinda Okkuta. Even before the setting of Ahinda Okkuta in Karnataka, it had started functioning in Kodagu and was registered under the Societies Act.

Stating that 18 traditional dwellers in Kodagu are devoid of reservation facilities, he said through the fight, two communities have been brought under the reservation list.

Following the fight taken up by the Okkuta, the reservation facilities were received by ‘Banna,’ ‘Heggade’ and ‘Kapala’ communities in Kodagu. There are small communities that require reservation and there is a need to fight for the same, he added.

Demanding the release of the socio-economic survey report, the Ahinda Okkuta will stage a protest on February 18 in Madikeri.

“Without the release of the survey report, we will not know the status of the communities. The survey report should be released at the earliest,” he demanded.

A sum of Rs 158 crore was spent on the socio-economic survey in Karnataka. The survey was conducted using 1 lakh teachers, he told the people at the meeting.

Okkuta general secretary Muneer Ahmmed said that the Okkuta was started in 1991.
