Cop who quit over Siddaramaiah's angry gesture appointed as DCP of Belagavi City Police

Belagavi: Narayan Baramani, the Additional Superintendent of Police, Dharwad on whom Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had raised a hand during a Congress convention in April and who had recently resigned, was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) of the Belagavi City Police on Thursday.

During the incident that took place in April, BJP workers had obstructed Siddaramaiah's speech, leading to the CM summoning Baramani, who was standing in front of the stage.

Videos of the incident showed the CM raising his hand at the cop, leading to widespread criticism.

Subsequently, Baramani, in July this year, said he was opting for voluntary retirement, hurt by the CM's very public gesture against him. The police officer also mentioned the incident in his resignation, DH reported earlier.

With 31 years of service in the police department, he has four more years remaining before his scheduled retirement.
