<p>The Bajrang Dal and VHP activists, who have taken Dattamala vows as part of Datta Jayanti Utsav, took out a colourful Shobhayatra in the city on Monday. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The Shobhayatra started at Kamadhenu Ganapathi temple and concluded at the Azad Park Circle after passing through the main thoroughfares of the city. <br /><br />The devotees wore Dattamala, saffron dhoti, held saffron flags in their hand and sang Bhajans. An idol of Lord Dattatreya placed on a decorated vehicle was taken out in the procession. The activists chanted “Datta Maharaj ki Jai” and “Nammadu Nammadu Datta Peetha Nammadu.”<br /><br />Kerala Chande, other musical instruments, Dollu and Nasik band were part of the Shobhayatra. <br /><br />The devotees burst crackers at Hanumanthappa Circle. Zilla Panchayat President Chaitrasri Malathesh, former president Rekha Huliyappa Gowda and other women members of Sangh Parivar also took part in the Shobhayatra. <br /><br />The devotees offered flowers, coconut to the deity throughout the procession. They were followed by hundreds of saffron-clad devotees dancing to the beats of drums. <br />Security had been stepped out in the city in view of the Shobhayatra. <br /><br />MLAs C T Ravi, D N Jeevaraj, V Sunil Kumar and MLC M K Pranesh participated in the procession. People were standing on the top of the buildings on either sides of the road to get a clear glimpse of the Shobhayatra. <br /><br />To facilitate the Shobhaytra, the movement of vehicles on M G Road was banned from afternoon to evening. <br /><br />All local leaders, including MLA Ravi visited five houses in the morning and collected alms as per the tradition. They were given rice, beetel leaves, jaggery, fruits and donation. On Tuesday, the devotees will take bath at Honnammana Halla at Athigundi and will proceed to Datta Peetha with ‘Irumudi’ by foot. <br /><br /></p>
