Demanding roads, villagers boycott elections

Residents of first ward Kalamane Road in Jalsoor gram panchayat and Yalachithaya Nagara Colony residents in Ujire gram panchayat have decided to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The five families in ward number 1 of Kalamane Road in Jalsoor have decided to boycott the election because successive governments have failed to fulfil their demand of a proper road to the area for the last 30 years.

“We have been demanding a road and appealed to the MLA, MP, District in- charge minister and tahsildar. But the promise of constructing a road has not been fulfilled. All households have written a message on the walls of their houses stating that they are boycotting the election,” said one resident.

Resident Suresh Kalamane said: “Without a road, we have to carry ailing patients by hand to take them to the hospital. We had been demanding a 500-metre long road. Though Tahsildar Kunhi Ahmed visited us on Friday and promised to fulfil the road demand after the election, we have decided to boycott the election till our demand is met.”

Demanding road repairs, residents of Yalachithaya colony have decided to boycott the election.

The road in question connects Ujire-Koyyur and Laila villages. “We have been demanding the road repairs for the last 15 years. There are 15 ST community families in the colony. The colony is devoid of basic facilities,” lamented the residents.
