Its population was 26,41,027 in 2001 and has rose to 29,94,744 in a span of 10 years.<br />Bangalore is the most populous with 95,88,910, while Kodagu is the least populous with a population of 5,54,762.<br /><br />Density of population (population per square kilometre) in the district swelled from 385 in 2001 to 437 in 2011, which is an increase by 52 persons per square kilometre. The total area of Mysore district is 854 square kilometres.<br /><br />Sex ratio<br /><br />Considering the number of men and women, the data shows that there are 27,668 women less in the population. For 15,11,206 men there are 14,83,538 women in the district. The district has 50.46 per cent males and 49.54 per cent females.<br /><br />District fares better<br /><br />Yet, the district fares better in sex ratio in comparison with the state average. The sex ratio of Karnataka is 968, while it is 982 in Mysore district.<br /><br /> Mysore district bettered its sex ratio from 964 females per 1,000 males to 982 over the decade.<br /><br />The fact that the percentage of population of children in the age group of 0-6 years declined from 12.25 per cent in 2001 to 9.55 per cent in 2011, indicates that there is a slowdown in population growth in the district. <br /><br />However, child sex ratio is well below the average sex ratio of the district.<br /><br />Child sex ratio was 956 girls per 1,000 boys in 2001, while it is 962 in 2011.<br /><br />Slowdown<br /><br />Another aspect that justifies the slowdown in population growth in the district is that the population growth was 13.39 per cent in 2001-11, while it had grown by 15.75 per cent during 1991-2001.<br /><br />As on 2011, Mysore city had a population of 9,83,893 and will soon be officially among the cities with more than one million population.</p>
