Doctor abducted in Karnataka's Ballari; kidnappers demand Rs 6 crore ransom

Ballari: A doctor working at the Ballari District Hospital was abducted around 6pm on Saturday by miscreants who have demanded a ransom of Rs 6 crore in exchange for releasing him.

Dr Sunil was kidnapped near Satyanarayana Pete in Ballari city. The kidnappers subsequently called Sunil’s brother Venugopal, the president of the Ballari District Liquor Traders’ Association, demanding Rs 6 crore in ransom.

The police have been intimated about the incident, and are busy searching for Dr Sunil. However, they are yet to make any breakthrough in the case. However, the abduction was captured on a CCTV camera, footage of which has been making the rounds on social media sites.

“We have stepped up checking at prominent places in the city, and senior police officers in the district have been pressed into the investigation,” said police sources. However, Ballari district Superintendent of Police Dr Shobharani refused to comment on the case.
