Dowry death accused convicted

The convict, R Ranganath, a resident of Bangalore, had killed his wife Komal for dowry in Surathkal police station limits three years ago. Her body was found hanging on June 29, 2007. A complaint was registered in this regard by Komal’s father, who had alleged that his daughter was a victim of dowry harassment.

Ranganath and Komal married on May 3, 2007 in Bangalore and they lived in Mangalore as Ranganath was working as a stenographer in Coast Guard in Panambur. According to the complaint, Ranganath was demanding Rs 1 lakh more dowry though he was given gold jewellery including a bracelet and other things. I Additional District Sessions Judge Sanjeev Kumar convicted the accused. Public Prosecutor Manjunath Bhat Panne argued the case.
