<p>Mysuru: Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated across Mysuru in a grand manner on Monday.</p><p>Sir Khazi of Mysuru Mohamed Usman Shariff led the Eid prayers in Mysuru city, while prayers were held in various mosques and Eidgah Maidans across the city. VIPs, including MLA Tanveer Sait, MLA K Harish Gowda, ex-MLA M K Somashekar, and KPCC spokesman M Lakshmana, joined the celebrations.</p><p>Shariff, also the Imam O Khateeb of Alhaj Umar Khan Mosque on B N Street in Mandi Mohalla, Mysuru, greeted Hindus on the occasion of the Ugadi festival and appealed to Muslims to spread the message of communal harmony and brotherhood. He said he prayed for the prosperity, security, and welfare of the citizens of our country.</p><p>He said, “Invite non-Muslims to celebrate your festivals and you also take part in their festivals and happy occasions, to understand each other well and spread the message of communal harmony.”</p>.Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated across Telangana.<p>The Sir Khazi presented a brief note on fasting and Eid, after the whole month of fasting. “We assemble here to thank the Almighty. Allah told us to fast the whole month, to experience the hunger and pain of the poor people. Muslim brethren distribute 2.5 per cent of their income in the name of Zakaath. Fithra, another type of charity, is mandatory for every Muslim, even on behalf of a child who is born one day earlier, so that the poor can also celebrate their Eid happily,” he said.</p><p>Former Dean of VTU Dr Syed Shakeeb ur Rahman, president of The Muslim Co-Operative Bank K C Showkath Pasha, former mayor Anwar Baig Aftab, former corporator Suhail Baig, Showkath Ali Khan, Jameel Ahmed Ashrafi, and Mumtaz Ahmed attended the prayers.</p><p>People took part in all parts of the city enthusiastically, with religious fervour. They, especially the youth and children, were dressed in their best and were seen greeting each other. They took photos and selfies with relatives and friends.</p><p>Security had been beefed up in sensitive localities in the wake of the attack on Udayagiri Police Station on February 10. Police personnel – in both uniform and plainclothes, and also on vehicles and horseback – were deployed near mosques and Eidgah Maidans. Besides, police personnel were on patrol in the sensitive areas.</p>
