<p>Bengaluru: Struggling to fund the railway barricade construction, an infrastructure termed 'critical' for preventing straying of elephants outside their habitats, the Forest Department will now explore Tamil Nadu's steel-rope fence.</p><p>In a letter, Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar B Khandre asked the Additional Chief Secretary of the department to explore the efficacy of the steel-rope fence built by Tamil Nadu and submit a report. The steel rope fence has been built at Rs 45 lakh/km. There are reports that the fence has proven effective," Khandre said, adding that sourcing of used railway tracks for the barricade construction has also become difficult.</p><p>Meanwhile, Khandre also reminded the officers to submit a report on his previous query for the efficacy of the railway barricade in preventing loss of life and damage of crops. </p><p>"Both the reports should be submitted within 10 days," he added.</p><p>The Forest Department has been struggling to source the critical infrastructure described as necessary to prevent man-animal conflict. The department's attempt to get Rs 300 crore funds for railway barricade construction from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board were thwarted earlier this week as the board members opposed transfer of funds.</p>
