Estranged husband attacks wife with sharp weapons on court premises

Belagavi: A woman was allegedly stabbed and assaulted with a sharp weapon by her estranged husband on the premises of a court at Savadatti in the district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred while she was attending proceedings related to her divorce case.

Aishwarya Ganachari, of Karikatti in the taluk, sustained severe injuries and has been admitted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi for treatment.

The accused — Muttappa Ganachari from Savantgi in Bailhongal taluk — attacked Aishwarya on the court premises. Her mother, Anusuya, who tried to protect her daughter, also suffered injuries in the assault.

The attack triggered panic among those present, with people fleeing the scene.

A heart-wrenching moment followed as Anusuya was seen holding her bleeding daughter in her lap and calling for help. 

Muttappa has been taken into custody and investigation is on by Savadatti police.
