Ex-PM’s tears were for his friends: Revanna

Last Updated 14 March 2019, 17:49 IST

Public Works Department Minister H D Revanna on Thursday clarified that the tears, shed by former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, were not for the sake of power or due to fear, but thinking about his old friends of Moodalahippe village.

Some media had ridiculed Deve Gowda and his family for turning emotional at a programme in the village on Wednesday. Addressing a party meeting near Channakeshava temple on Thursday, Revanna criticised the media for reporting that ‘Deve Gowda and family were in tears’.

Revanna said, “Deve Gowda was in tears thinking about his friends Kalegowda, Kalidasanna and others who were associated with him for more than 60 years during the programme at Moodalahippe. But the BJP leaders have issued taunting statements. He had not shed tears either for the victory for Prajwal and Nikhil or for saving the H D Kumaraswamy-led government”.

Revanna said the BJP is also into family politics in around 30 districts. “Let them show which party is not involved in family politics. The party, which came to power chanting Ram Bhajans, has now totally forgotten Lord Ram. The day is not complete for the BJP men if they do not criticise Deve Gowda”, he ridiculed.
