Last Updated 05 April 2019, 18:28 IST

Raitha Sangha members have submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, urging for the distributing of debt-free certificates to farmers.

A team of farmers led by Raitha Sangha president Chimmangada Ganesh Ganapathy met Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy and said that the loan waiver scheme of the state government should be implemented in Kodagu district as well.

Under the scheme, debt-free certificates have been distributed in several other districts of the state. The Nationalised banks should also be directed by the government to not harass farmers for repaying the loans. Fresh loans should be sanctioned to the farmers, they said.

"The district has been ravaged by floods. Currently, unfavourable weather has resulted in the loss of crops. Therefore, the government should waive all loans availed by farmers. Measures should be initiated so as to guarantee minimum support price to farmers," the Raitha Sangha members said.

Raitha Sangha leaders Macchamada Ranji, Gudiyangada Poovappa, Baduvanda Mahesh, Cheppudira Mahesh and Changulanda Rajappa were present among others.
