Five arrested in extortion case

The DCIB sleuths have nabbed five persons in connection with extortion of issuing life threat to an entrepreneur in Uppooru.

According to the police, the case was filed by the entrepreneur on March 13 at Brahmavar police station.

The arrested are Shashi Poojary alias Shadow, 28, from Mulki; Ravindra Poojary alias Vicky Poojary, 30, from Mulki; Dhanraj Poojary alias Dhanraj, 26, from Permamanki; Dhanraj Salian alias Dhanu Kola, 30, from Malpe; and Ullas Shenoy alias Ullas, 27, from Malpe.

The main arrested, Shashi Poojary, was the mastermind behind the crime and acted on the orders of underworld kingpin Bannanje Raja, who is imprisoned in Belagavi.

The arrested were found in the extortion cells previously too and had been targeting rich businessmen, builders and entrepreneurs. They were nabbed in Bengaluru.

Cases are also filed against them in Urwa, Manipal and Malpe police stations.
