<p>Well-known periodical from the US, Journal of Organometallic Chemistry, has brought out a special issue in honour of scientist Dr Narayana Hosmane, who turned 70 on June 30. </p>.<p>Hosmane, who is a native of Gokarna, has lived in the US for the past many years. The June issue of the journal, published from the US, Russia, Colombia and many European countries, has been dedicated to Hosmane.</p>.<p>The issue also has an editorial by Richard Adams and Vladimir Bregadze, calling Hosmane a rare scientist. He has been credited with introducing boron chemistry, which has a key role to play in cancer medicine research, to the US.</p>.<p>The editorial talks about how Hosmane was instrumental in setting up the Boron Research Institute in the US. The institute has been in existence for the past four decades. </p>.<p>Born in a traditional family, Hosmane studied at the Bhadrakali High School, before moving to Dharwad. He did his MSc at the Karnatak University, bagging a gold medal.</p>.<p>Hosmane has the distinction of being the lone foreign student to be awarded scholarship by the Edinburgh University, Scotland.</p>.<p>The professor moved to the US in 1976 and is presently a special researcher at the Illinois University. Hosmane has to his credit the all-time record of 350 essays in the field of Boron Chemistry. Five of his books have earned international recognition.</p>
