<p>The residence of former chief minister Late S Nijalingappa will be developed as a museum at a cost of Rs 86 lakh, said Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj S Tangadagi. </p><p>He was speaking after visiting the residence and Nijalingappa's memorial at Seebara here on Tuesday. </p><p>"The government has released Rs 5 crore to purchase Nijalingappa's residence located near the deputy commissioner's office. Of Rs 5 crore, Rs 4.18 crore has already been paid towards registration of the residence. The rest of the amount would be spent on renovation of the house and also to develop it as a museum," he added.</p><p>The Nijalingappa Memorial is being managed by senior leader Hanumanthappa and Nijalingappa's son Kiran Shankar. "Emphasise will be laid on retaining the walls and also the original design of the house, while renovating it. A committee will be formed to oversee this and Nijalingappa's son Kiran Shankar will be part of it," said the minister. </p><p>The Kannada and Culture Department will hold grand celebrations to mark the 50th year of renaming of Karnataka state and to mark the occasion, a statue of 'Bhuvaneshwari Devi' has been installed in front of Vidhana Soudha. "This is a historic moment and proud to be part of these events, including renovation of Nijalingappa's house," he stated. </p><p>Earlier, he went through the memorial and offered floral tributes to Nijalingappa's portrait.</p><p>Memorial Trust Honorary president A Hanumanthappa, honourary secretary Kiran Shankar, trustees Mohan Kumar Kondajji, Urban Development Authority chairman M K tajpeer and Deputy Commissioner T Venkatesh were present. </p>
