Heavy rain lashes Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada districts

Moderate to heavy rains accompanied by strong wind and thunder lashed several parts of Malnad region on Tuesday.

Trees were uprooted following strong wind at Pragathinagar in Sagar town. Similarly, trees and electric poles were uprooted in Talaguppa in Sagar taluk, disrupting traffic movement. Later, the road was cleared. The movement of vehicles was affected for nearly an hour on the Siganduru-Holebagilu as trees were uprooted and fell on the road divider. Tourists cleared the road.

The movement of vehicles between Thirthahalli and Shivamogga was disrupted for a short period as trees were uprooted due to rains accompanied by strong wind. Sorab, Bhadravathi, Shikaripur and Shivamogga received moderate showers.

Heavy rain lashed various parts of Udupi district bringing respite from the scorching sun. The rain coupled with gusty wind lashed Udupi, Mudradi, Muniyalu, Shivapura, Hebri and other surrounding areas.

Tree branches fell on several places in Udupi town. People were caught unawares as skied opened up suddenly.

A huge tree fell on the roof of a shandy market belonging to Mudradi gram panchayat. Several trees along with electric poles were uprooted at Padukudooru, Kelakhajane, Muniyalu, Varanga disrupting power supply in the region.

Heavy rain coupled with gusty winds lashed Sirsi taluk for an hour, hitting voting for the Lok Sabha elections. Heavy winds blew away the shamiyana set up in front of Sakhi booth at Marikamba high school.

Two trees were uprooted near the poll booth at KHB Colony. Rainwater overflowed on Hubballi Road, Mastikatte Road and others areas affecting traffic.
