District In-charge Minister U T Khader said steps were initiated to form a third advisory committee to assist in implementation of developmental projects under Mangaluru Smart City mission project.

“The advisory committee with MLAs will have the urban minister as chairman and district-in-charge minister as vice chairman. The existing two committees, the special purpose vehicle board and the steering committee did not have MLAs as members,’’ Khader told reporters at Circuit House on Wednesday.

He also said that a huge chunk of funds – about Rs 900 crore – was being set aside for beautifying the city and upgrading infrastructure.

“An amount of Rs 30 crore has been set aside for developing a road underbridge
near Mahakali Padpu. The southern railways was entrusted with the responsibility of drafting a detailed project,” he added.

“Other projects being planned under Smart City include developing a model road near Kadri Park (Rs 12 cr), an indoor Kabbadi stadium in Urwa market (Rs 10 crore), and a 77-year-old slaughter house (Rs 15 cr). The multi-level parking (Rs 94 cr), Central Market (Rs 145 cr) and inter-city bus stand (Rs 500 crore) are being planned under PPP (public, private partnership) model,” he said.

Khader said the Kuloor bridge will be closed for traffic and work would begin on a new bridge.
