<p>Kalaburagi: Gulbarga University outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof Dayanand Agsar said that efforts were made to elevate the academic and research activities of Gulbarga University to a global level during the last four years.</p><p>Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that it has entered into agreements with universities in England and United States. He also said that the charge of vice-chancellor would be handed over to Political Science Department Dean Prof Gooru Sreeramulu until the next order from the Governor.</p><p>"I am pleased to have studied at Gulbarga University and attained a prestigious position in my home district's university. I faced challenges like Covid pandemic, the new National Education Policy and the implementation of Unified University and College Management System (UUCMS) during my tenure. I ensured that students' academic activities were not hampered despite shortage of funds and staff", he said.</p><p>Pointing out that selected students visited universities in England twice due to the collaboration between the State Higher Education Council and the British Council of England, he said that they learnt about teaching, research and leadership qualities there. "I was part of the five vice-chancellors' delegation sent by the state government to England. I gained insights into innovations, administration and quality programmes", he added.</p><p>"An agreement was made between University of Bradford's Tissue and Cell Culture Engineering in England and Gulbarga University's Life Sciences Department during my visit. Prof Khaghani and Prof Vidyasagar discovered that bioactive molecules using nanotechnology could be used to treat diabetic wounds", he said. </p><p><strong>Grants</strong></p><p>Stating that the university received around Rs 73 crore grants during his tenure, he said that Rs 23 crore provided by KKRDB was used for purchase of furniture and essential digital equipment for learning. In the second phase, Rs 30 crore was allocated for solar power, road repairs and auditoriums. Grant of Rs 20 crore approved by the central government would be used for scientific equipment for teaching, building repairs and new construction works, he explained.</p><p>"We have to provide necessary facilities for 3,500 students including undergraduates, postgraduates and research scholars on the campus spread over to 800-acre. However, I have a regret that recruitment for teaching and non-teaching was not possible during my tenure", he added.</p><p>Registrar Prof Ramesh Londonkar was present at the press conference.</p>
