<p>Union Minister Pralhad Joshi informed that the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Dharwad will receive an additional Rs 2,000 crore in funding from the Union government.</p><p>Speaking at the valedictory session of a national-level seminar titled ‘Indian Education and the True Role of Teachers’ organised by Association of Government and Aided First Grade College Lecturers here in the City on Sunday, Joshi said the Dharwad IIT will be developed on par with other IITs across the country.</p><p>Highlighting the progress of education in India, Joshi noted that the country now has 23 IITs and is making significant strides in the field. “The Union government is committed to providing education that meets the needs of the 21st century for today’s students,” he stated.</p><p>He emphasised that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a transformative initiative aimed at turning India into a global knowledge superpower. “The NEP ensures a comprehensive and multidisciplinary education from school to higher levels, equipping the youth with industry-relevant skills and preparing them for the future,” he added.</p><p>Joshi also expressed confidence that India will become a developed country by 2047 and mentioned that several programmes are being implemented by the Union government to achieve that goal. </p><p>During the session, IIT Dharwad Dean S M Shivaprasad delivered a lecture on ‘Education in the 21st Century’.</p><p>Motilal Rathod, Raghu Akkamanchi, Gurunath Badiger, C V Maridevarmath, Sandeep Boodihal, and others were present.</p>
