Illegal mini hydel units face closure

A delegation of farmers from the Malnad region, led by the Western Ghats Task Force Chairperson Anant Hegde Ashisar, met Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje on Tuesday and apprised her of the mini-hydel units that are coming up in Western Ghats without permission.

Karandlaje assured the delegation that only hydel units with environmental clearance would be allowed to operate in the Ghats. A meeting of forest and energy department officials will be held next week.
