Only those who are healthy can build a healthy society. Every citizen should join hands to make the society free of drug menace, said Kodagu Press Club president Ajjamada Ramesh Kuttappa.

He was speaking after inaugurating the blood donation camp held at Bal Bhavan in Madikeri, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the Kodagu Blood Donors’ Association.

The association has taken up many social initiatives in the last two years. Other than blood donation, the members of the association have responded to the woes of the financially less privileged, during Covid-19 lockdown, he said.

Awareness programmes are being held to convince the people of the necessity to donate their blood. Those who have been benefited should also come forward to donate blood after their recovery, he added.

Indian Red Cross Society district chairman Ravindra Rai said that blood has no religion, caste or creed.

He lauded the social services of individuals and associations.

More blood donation camps should be arranged to ensure that there is no shortage of blood, he said.

District Hospital Blood Bank chief medical officer Dr Karumbaiah released the book ‘Nettaru’ by writer Chandan Nandarubetta.

Karnataka Blood Helpline volunteer Irfan, Rakta Needi Jeeva Ulisi organisation chief Shridhar Kumatakar and other blood donors were felicitated on the occasion.

Members of several organisations and the general public donated blood.

Blood Donors organisation chairman H R Vinu and secretary Micheal Weigas were present.
