Karnataka govt delays appointing differently-abled teachers

Bengaluru: Rani TR, was among the five visually impaired persons, who felt a relief in December 2023 after the Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal ordered that the state government cannot reject the candidature with "100% blindness" in the final section list for Graduate Primary Teacher for Social Science.

However, a year later, the five candidates are still waiting for the government to issue them appointment orders. In the meanwhile, the state government appealed against the tribunal's order in the high court and lost the case on November 11.

At the protest site in Freedom Park, Rani sat with Narayanaswamy B holding a board stating that she had started a hunger protest to urge the government to fulfill its duty. "The high court has upheld the tribunal's order. How long should we continue to wait for justice? Out of frustration, I am sitting here seeking an appointment letter," she said.

The tribunal had also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 to be paid to the petitioner, Latha HN, which the government is yet to pay.
