<p>Mangaluru: A final <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/beach">beach</a> shack policy will be readied in Karnataka after collecting suggestions from the stakeholders, Dr Rajendra K V, Director of the Department of Tourism said.</p><p>A draft beach shack policy has been prepared. The Coastal Tourism Development Council has been asked to submit detailed suggestions on what is to be required under beach shack policy by March end, he said during the Coastal Karnataka Tourism workshop in Mangaluru.</p><p>Rajendra sought inputs from the Council on which beach is to be chosen for the pilot project, infrastructure improvements needed to improve beach shacks, duration of the license period for the shack license, operating hours of shacks, monitoring mechanism for compliance and safety, food and alcohol regulations to balance tourist experience and responsible tourism.</p><p>Stakeholders said that shacks of eco- friendly materials for a season can be considered. Locals need to be given priority with the local culture and cuisine. Further, women entrepreneurs can be supported for promoting cuisine of the region. Further, priority should also be given for fire safety.</p><p><strong>Cruise at NMPA</strong></p><p>A representative from New Mangalore Port said that the port is exploring the possibility of heli taxi services for the passengers arriving in cruise, to reach out to nearby destinations.</p><p>To promote cruise tourism, the NMPA has planned to increase the number of immigration counters to 75 from the current 40, dedicated gate and road for cruise traffic, attracting domestic cruise liners to call at the port and study the socio-economic impact of cruise tourism by NITK. </p><p>During the year, five cruises have already called at the port and four more vessels are expected by the end of cruise season. Last year eight vessels had arrived and in 2016-17, a total of 28 cruise vessels had called at the port.</p>
