The reconstituted Karnataka Knowledge Commission (KKC) will focus more on primary and higher education, traditional knowledge and improving quality of research during the next two years.

Addressing a press meet after the first meeting of the reconstituted panel, KKC chairperson K Kasturirangan and Executive Director M K Sridhar on Wednesday said the Commission will also deliberate on framing a professional policy for teachers, integration of skills with general education, public health and utilisation of Geographic Information System (GIS), among others.

Mission groups comprising experts will be set up to deliberate on each of the focus themes.  The panel will also take forward the recommendations made during the last three years. Of the 60 recommendations made by KKC, the government has implemented 12, while 22 are on the verge of implementation, they said.

“We have learnt from our experience during the last three years and will now explore new areas, the approach for which will be worked out in the coming days,” Kasturirangan said.

Higher Education Principal Secretary Siddaiah said several suggestions were made by members during the deliberations held earlier in the day.
