Kodagu Champions League Cricket Tournament from April 3

The fifth edition of the Kodagu Champions League Cricket Tournament will begin on April 3 and the preparations are in full swing.

City Boys Youth Association of Siddapura has been conducting Kodagu Champions League (KPL) for the last four years.

This time, around 200 players have applied to take part in the tournament. The best players will be added to the icon list.

Bidding will be carried out for the players and the owners of the team can bid for the icon players. Every team can have three icon players. The icon players will select other players.

The playground is being prepared for the KCL, on a seven-acre land in Karadigodu.

A parking facility is also being readied near the ground.

The champion team will get a cash prize of Rs 1.10 lakh, along with a trophy.

The man of the match and other individual awards will be presented during each match.

Umpires and scorers approved by the Karnataka State Cricket Association will take part in the tournament.

Teams

The teams selected for the fifth edition of KPL are - Creative Cricketers Madikeri (owners: Shamir and Irshad); Royals Virajpet (Naushas, Saraf); Team Komban Siddapura (Sattar); Team Cool Siddapura (Thomas and Wasim); Rambo Cricketers Nellyahudikeri (Sabu Verghese); Sports Old Madikeri (Ansaf); Dot Dominators Dubare (Jamshid, Simac); Red Back Spiders Madikeri (Ashish, Ubaid); A K Friends Hundi (Rehman, Munir); Y B C Nellyahudikeri (Jamshir, Rahim); New Coorg Star Nalavattekre, Friends Cricketers Nellyahudikeri (Shuhaib, Abid).

Social work

Members of the City Boys Youth Association have also been carrying out social activities such as blood donation, assistance to financially less privileged patients and financially backward students.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, the members provided food to street dogs.

City Boys Youth Association president A S Mustafa said that the main objective of conducting the Kodagu Champions League Cricket Tournament is to encourage rural cricketing talents.

Playground committee convener Afzal said that quality work has been done while constructing the playground.
