<p>Mysuru: More than three lakh people took a holy dip in the confluence of three rivers, as part of 'Magha Poornima', during the Kumbh Mela, at T Narsipur, popular as 'Dakshina Prayag', in Mysuru district, on Wednesday.</p><p>Devotees started arriving at the bathing ghats from 3 am itself. The vehicles were stopped at a distance of three km from the town. The mela was first started in 1989, and has been conducted once in three years, except during the Covid pandemic in 2022. The kumbh melas were held here in 1989, followed in 1992, 1995, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019. Only a few traditional rituals and practices were held in 2022".</p><p>Chief Minister Siddaramaiah approved and sanctioned necessary funds for the mela. The district administration has conducted the three-day festival in a smooth manner, by providing all basic facilities to the devotees, the Minister said.</p><p>It is everyone's responsibility to keep the rivers clean. The water from the drain and houses should not be let into canals and rivers. Water is one of the precious natural resources. The responsibility of protecting the rivers is on us, he said.</p><p>Adichunchanagiri seer Nirmalanandanatha Swami, Suttur seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, seers of various mutts, Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy, ZP CEO K M Gayathri, and SP Vishnuvardhan were present.</p><p>Singer Vijay Prakash, ex-CM D V Sadananda Gowda and ex-MP Pratap Simha took a holy dip.</p><p><strong>Police patrol</strong></p><p>As the water turned slushy, due to thousands of devotees taking bath, a few youths tried to remove the barricades, to go into the deep waters. Police personnel struggled to control them.</p><p>Police personnel and experts were patrolling in six boats, to prevent the people from entering the deep waters.</p><p><strong>Cauvery Aarti</strong></p><p>A team of priests conducted 'Cauvery Aarti' on Tuesday night, amidst the gathering of hundreds of devotees. They watched the event from the bathing ghat of Agastyeshwara Swamy temple.</p><p>Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar took part in the event, took a holy dip and performed Aarti at the confluence of rivers around 11 pm, on Tuesday.</p>
