<p>Mangaluru: Amid the concerns raised by MLAs on the contractor who has been entrusted with the work on four-laning of Charmadi Ghat stretch, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi said that a meeting of officials from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) including Regional Officer will be held at Bengaluru on February 21.</p><p>The concerns raised by the MLAs on the contractor will be brought to the notice of the NHAI top officials, to ask the contractor to take up the work at the earliest.</p><p>The MLAs and DK DC said that Charmadi Ghat is a sensitive area. If the work is stalled once taken up on the stretch, then it will affect the entire region.</p><p>The Minister said that the work on Shiradi Ghat from Sakleshpur to Gundya will be completed by June. “We have been reviewing the work on the national highways every month to accelerate the works,’ he said.</p>.NHAI starts pilot project to prevent stray cattle related accidents on highways.<p>MLAs Rajesh Naik and MLC Manjunath Bhandari said that illegal sand extraction is affecting the bridges in the district. The Minister said that Deputy Commissioner and police should take strict action against illegal sand extraction. The mines and geology and police should work in coordination. “The PWD also has a responsibility to protect its properties. A guidelines will be issued in this regard,” he said.</p><p>Eralier, the Minister visited Polali- Addur bridge where the work on strengthening the bridge is in progress.</p><p>Jarkiholi said that priority will be given for the repair of the bridges. He said that work on 20 foot bridges have been taken up in the district and 30 foot bridges will be announced in the budget.</p><p>Mulki- Moobidri MLA Umanath Kotian brought to light the poor condition of the Balkunje- Dhamaskatte bridge.</p><p><strong>Proposed bypass roads</strong></p><p>The Minister said that Puttur MLA has proposed bypass roads in Puttur—Nehru Nagar Junction at NG 275 to Padil via Bannur from intermediate lane to four lane at a cost of Rs 23.20 crore, Kepulu Junction at State Highway 118 to Bedrala Junction State Highway 100 via Jidekallu from intermediate lane to two lane with paved shoulder at a cost of Rs 29.40crore. In addition, bypass to Sullia city from Elimale Arathodu at a cost of Rs 30 crore and bypass to Kukke Subrahmanya Temple town from Eddoli of Bengaluru Jalsoor State Highway 85 to Arampady of Subrahmanya- Manjeshwara State Highway 100 at a cost of Rs 8 crore. The bypass proposals will be looked into, said the Minister.</p>
