<p>Hubballi: Twelve achievers from various fields, including art, culture, sports and others were honored with the 'Avva Award' by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi in a function in Hubballi on Sunday.</p><p>To mark the 14th death anniversary of Guravva Shivalingappa Horatti, mother of Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, Avva Seva Trust organised the award ceremony. Each awardee was honoured with a plaque and Rs 25,000 cash prize.</p><p>In the presence of Ilkal Vijayamahanteshwar Samsthan Mutt seer Gurumahant Swamiji, senior politician S R Patil, journalist Chandrakanth Vaddu, writer Sangamanath Lokapur, sitar maestro Chhote Rahimat Khan, vocal artiste Rekha Hegde, Yakshagana Bhagawata Keshaw Hegde Kolagi, businessman Mahendra Singhi, Basava philosophy promoter S Mahadevayya, social worker Rajeshwari Patil, folk artiste Basavaraj Shiggavi, athlete Trisha Jadala and SSLC topper to the state Ankita Konnur were among the recipients of the awards.</p><p><strong>'Mother is like god'</strong></p><p>Inaugurating the programme, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said a person can grow to great heights with the help of knowledge and culture given by his mother. A mother teaches, educates, nurtures, gives culture and moral values to her kid to make him a complete human being, therefore mother is called as god.</p><p>Appreciating Horatti for initiating a great work of helping the needy persons and recognising the achievers through Avva Seva Trust, Shivakumar said one should help others to repay the debt of gratitude to their mothers.</p><p>“Horatti created a world record of being an MLC for the last 45 years and winning elections eight times from teachers’ constituency with the blessings of his mother. The works of Avva Seva Trust is the modal for others in the state. Recognising the achievers will help others to follow their path,” he added.</p><p>Advising the gathering to make use of available technology to understand the world and to learn things to achieve something in their lives, Shivakumar said one should achieve before he/she dies. Education and culture given by mother is key for a successful life.</p><p><strong>'Teach children values'</strong></p><p>Union Minister Joshi said teaching culture and moral values to children is very important for all mothers to make their kids a complete human being. Schools do not teach culture and values, parents and grandparents should teach it to their kids.</p><p>One can achieve to a greater extent, but they should not forget to repay the debt of mother, and take up social work to help the needy persons, he added.</p><p>At the function, Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, columnist Akshaya Gokhale and others were present.</p>
