MUDA presents revised budget, estimates expenditure of Rs 548.5 crore

Mysuru: The Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), which is in the news for all the negative reasons over the past year, sprung to action on Thursday, as the revised Budget estimate for the year 2024-25 and the Budget for the year 2025-26 was presented.

While MUDA expects to garner a revenue of Rs 871.54 crore, it estimates to spend Rs 548.50 crore, during the upcoming financial year, it has revised the estimated revenue to Rs 837.19 crore and expenditure to Rs 686.08 crore for the current fiscal (ending on March 31).

The Budget was presented by MUDA Commissioner A N Raghunanda, while Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy presided over the session, as MUDA does not have a Chairman.

K Marigowda resigned as MUDA Chairman on October 16, 2024, citing health issues and directions of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The Congress workers were angry because the alleged MUDA scam came to the fore due to Marigowda’s letter to then DC K V Rajendra, in June 2024.

The budget proposes development of a new layout on Mysuru-Nanjangud road, construction of a five-star hotel on public private partnership (PPP), a commercial complex, and a grant for the completion of the Ambedkar Bhavan, and Rs 7.75 crore for the Peripheral Ring Road DPR.

It has been decades since a new layout was developed by MUDA. Thus, the Commissioner proposed a plan to develop a new layout. It is intended to develop a layout by acquiring land directly from farmers and Rs 100 crore will be allocated for this.

It is proposed to build a commercial complex on 14 acres of MUDA land in Vijayasripura, for which Rs 10 crore has been allocated. It is proposed to build a five-star hotel under PPP on five acres of MUDA land in Vijayasripura and a commercial complex on three acres of land adjacent to it.

Rs 23.84 crore has been reserved for the remaining work on Ambedkar Bhavan. The Peripheral Road project, announced in the last budget, has been allocated Rs 7.75 crore for the DPR of the 105.31 km road. The 45-metre-wide road will have three main roads and one service lane on both sides.

Recently, MUDA handed over 900 layouts to the urban local bodies. Thus, the income of Rs 35 crore that MUDA used to get from house/site revenue, accounts and account transfers will be lost. So, MUDA has tried to find alternative sources of income.

The income from allotment of plots and auction is the main source of income for MUDA. A total income of Rs 225 crore is expected from the allotment of plots and auction of corner plots this year.
