Muzrai Dept bans plastic in and around temples; violators will have to shell out

A recent Government Order issued by the Muzrai and Endowment Department has banned use and disposal of plastic around 100 metres radius of a temple.

The violation of the rule will lead to Rs one lakh fine or seven years imprisonment.
At the inaugural function of Pollutetech 2010 at J N Tata Auditorium, IISc, here on Friday, Environment Minister Krishna Palemar also announced plans to set-up a Botanical Garden at a cost of Rs 15 crore in Mangalore. Organised by the Bangalore Media Centre along with Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), the two- day seminar and exhibition will see 40 speakers touching upon various aspects of environmental pollution.

With noise pollution becoming a rising concern in urban areas, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has decided to set up an automated noise monitoring stations that will record the noise levels 24/7 and 365 days a year.

“We are going to set up 70 automated noise monitoring stations. The recordings from these stations will provide us with a baseline data. This will ensure that there are no human errors, which normally occur when doing manual recordings. We will set up one in Bangalore,” revealed CPCB chairman Prof S P Gautam.
