KPCC spokesperson Lakshmana discusses farmers' issues with DC in Mysuru

Mysuru: KPCC spokesperson M Lakshmana held a meeting with Mysuru DC G Lakshmikanth Reddy at Mysuru ZP office on Saturday and discussed a few issues faced by farmers in the Mysuru region and submitted a representation.

He accompanied leaders of Karnataka Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene.

Lakshmana urged the DC to ensure that the officials complete podi durasthi (issues related to documents/land rights); and to issue Saaguvali cheetis (land grant certificate) to the farmers.

He requested the DC to direct the Tahsildars to avoid undue delay when the farmers visit Taluk offices related to minor land issues and PDOs to ensure that all benefits reach the farmers at the right time.

Lakshmana appealed to direct the Forest department officials and Tahsildars to issue compensation at the right time to the farmers who suffer crop loss due to elephant and other animals on forest fringes. He urged the DC to ensure that adequate measures are taken to prevent loss of lives due to human-animal conflict in Sargur, HD Kote and Hunsur taluks.

Lakshmana pointed out that the farmers are not getting fertilisers at the right time; not getting a scientific price for their crops; and not getting adequate profit from crops due to the involvement of middle men. He urged for transparency during weighing and auction of tobacco, and to ensure that the Tobacco growers get the right price from companies. He discussed the issues related to the support price for sugarcane.

He noted that farmers are not getting loans from nationalised banks at the right time and thus they are forced to depend on micro finances. He said that the crop insurance amount of the government is not helpful and hence farmers are forced to depend on private insurance companies.

Lakshama shared that the farmers' helpline is not functioning adequately.
