<p> To usher in transparency in Public Distribution System (PDS), an electronic weighing machine was inaugurated at VSSN Cooperative society, at Seethur in Narasimharajapura on Tuesday. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Speaking after inaugurating the machine, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies D N Jeevraj said that food grains rice, wheat, sugar and kerosene will be weighed through electronic weighing machine. <br /><br />The weighing machine with a voice system not only tells the customer the weight of the grocery, but also the amount to be paid on the basis of biometric information of the ration card holder. <br /><br />“There were 1.82 crore ration cards in the State when I took charge as the Minister. Bogus ration cards have been suspended. Electronic weighing-cum-point of sale (PoS) machines have already been installed in ration shops at Bangalore and Tumkur districts. <br /><br />The machines will be installed in all the ration shops in Chikmagalur, Belgaum, Dharward, Mysore, and Richur districts within a month. Electronic machines have been installed first time in the country. The state requires 21,699 machines. As there are a few manufacturers, the machines will be installed in phases across the State,” he said. <br /><br />Seethur VSSN President Y S Subrahmanya, Taluk Panchayat President J G Nagaraj and others were present. <br /></p>
