<p>Nobel laureate Sir Harold Walter Kroto (Harry Kroto) will address engineering students on October 25, as a part of the national-level technical symposium ‘Engineer 2012,’ organised by NITK, Surathkal.<br /><br /></p>.<p> The Briton, who had won Nobel prize in Chemistry in 1996, is currently a professor at Florida State University. Sir Kroto, who is currently working on nano-science and cluster chemistry, will hold a video conference with the students. <br /><br />At a press conference here on Monday, NITK Dean (Students’ Welfare) Dr Gopal Mugeraya said the annual technical fest would touch upon topics from branch specific to inter-disciplinary issues. Besides testing the practical engineering skills, it would give an opportunity for them to exhibit their knowledge in pure sciences. <br /><br />Speakers<br /><br />Engineer 2012 Joint Convener Aman Gupta said that, apart from Sir Kroto, American automobile designer Chris Bangle, tech-historian and writer Edward Tenner and Oxford University Mathematics Professor Marcus Peter Francis du Sautoy, will address the students, via video conference.<br /><br />Events<br /><br />The five-day-long tech fest includes events which showcase the talent of engineering students across India. ‘Automata’ (building autonomous robot) and Velocity (remote control racing event) are some of the planned events. A series of workshops will be organised as a part of the fest. Workshops on ethical hacking and information security, augmented reality involving robotics by Li2 Innovations, rifle shooting by Nishan Sports Shooting Academy and a rubber band powered fixed wing aircraft by Avian Aerospace will also be conducted during the fest.<br /><br />Inauguration<br /><br />Manipal University former vice-chancellor Dr B M Hegde will be the chief guest during the inaugural function. NITK Alumni Association President Bhupal Gopala and UAE Exchange and Financial Services Limited India Country Head George Antony will be the guests of honour. NITK Director Professor Swapan Bhattacharya will preside over the function. NITK Student Council President Bevin Mathew was present.</p>
