<p>Mangaluru: The CCB sleuths in <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/mangaluru">Mangaluru</a> have arrested the chain snatchers involved in chain-snatching incidents within a few days after they were released on bail.</p><p>They were involved in separate incidents in the Mangaluru Commissionerate jurisdiction and the Karkala Rural Police Station limits of Udupi district. The stolen gold chains and the bike used in the thefts have been recovered.</p><p>According to Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal, the arrested are Habeeb Hassan and Ummar Shiyaf. The police have recovered a 17.43-gram gold chain stolen from Karkala, a bike used in committing an offence, and a knife used to intimidate victims.</p><p>On December 6, 2024, Sujina D’Souza, working as a cook at the Anganwadi centre in Naringana village, was robbed while on duty around 1:15 pm. Two individuals arrived on a bike, inquired about the route to Manjanady, and forced their way into the Anganwadi. </p><p>They snatched a gold chain from Sujina’s neck before fleeing the spot. A case was registered at the Konaje Police Station. </p>.Four arrested by Thane cops; several chain snatching, mobile and phone thefts solved.<p>On December 9, in the Karkala Rural Police Station limits near Sunkamaru-Manjarapalke, Vasanti, a woman walking home, was stopped by a man and a woman on a bike. After pretending to ask for directions, the man snatched a gold chain from her neck before escaping. This incident was reported at the Karkala Rural Police Station leading to further investigations.</p><p>The Mangaluru CCB police, while investigating the Konaje case, analysed the CCTV footage and identified the culprits as Habeeb and his associate Ummar. Habib was released on bail just four days prior to committing the offence. Acting on intelligence, the police nabbed Habeeb near Car Street in Mangaluru and apprehended him along with Ummar.</p><p>The Commissioner said that Habeeb has a long criminal history, with 39 cases of theft, cattle theft, and chain snatching registered against him in various police stations including Barke, Moodbidri, Surathkal, Ullal, Konaje, Bajpe, Vittal, Bantwal, and Karkala. Ummar was involved in an attempt to murder in Bantwal and two theft cases in Moodbidri.</p><p>After being released on bail on December 6, the duo resumed their criminal activities starting with the Konaje case. They also stole a bike near the KSRTC bus stand in Mangaluru, which was later used in committing an offence at Karkala.</p><p>The CCB team led by ACP Manoj Kumar Naik comprising Inspector Shyam Sundar H M, PSI Sudeep MV, ASIs Mohan KV, Ram Poojary, Sujan Shetty, and other CCB staff members cracked the case.</p>
