<p>Mysuru: From a three-year-old girl Hima hailing from Kudligi, to 70 year-old saree laden Rathnammma from Kempisiddanahundi, about 15,000 people spread their mats and performed Yoga at 11th International Yoga day event held at Mysuru Palace premises at Yoga capital of the world, Mysuru on Saturday morning. </p><p>Mysuru district in-charge minister H C Mahadevappa, Mysore-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, MLA T S Srivatsa, DC G Lakshmikanth Reddy, ADC P Shivaraju, ZP CEO Ukesh Kumar, MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif, City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, SP N Vishnuvardhana, Deputy Director of AYUSH department Dr C Renuka Devi, Mysuru Palace Board Deputy Director T S Subramanya performed Yoga at the event. </p><p>Director of Central Institute of Indian Languages, Prof Shailendra Mohan; Man Mohan Kaur of Union Ministry of Education also joined them</p> .<p>Minister Mahadevappa said, "Yoga is part of ancient Indian tradition. Amid pressure of routine life, performance of Yoga and a balanced diet is necessary to maintain good physical and mental health, for a peaceful and happy life. It enhances the life span of people. Even as this year's theme is Yoga for one Earth, one Health, this International Yoga day binds human beings from across the globe and brings spirit of oneness. It promotes peace, harmony and brotherhood," he said. </p><p>He told DH, "even as Mysuru has contributed modern Yoga to the world, they will consider building a Yoga convention centre in Mysuru. Like how the preamble is read in all schools, they will consider introducing Yoga for children in all schools for good health, Mahadevappa said. </p> .<p>MP Yaduveer recalled how Maharaja's of Mysuru patronised Yoga, and recollected the contribution of Krishnamacharya, K Pattabhi Jois, B K S Iyengar from Mysuru in introducing modern Yoga as soft power to the world. It promotes mental, physical wellbeing and helps build a healthy ideal society, he said. </p><p>People learning Yoga in about 500 institutions in Mysuru; about 1,000 Yoga instructors of Mysuru; and few foreigners learning Yoga in Mysuru performed Yoga at the event. Yoga students of 20 Ayush Arogya Mandiras (Ayush Yoga and wellness centres) and their 40 instructors; staff of Government Naturopathy and Yoga, and Ayurveda colleges and hospitals, JSS Ayurvedic College and hospital also performed. Students from government schools, hostels of the Social welfare department and residential schools of Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS), private schools led by CISPMAM (CBSE, ICSE & State Board Private School Managements Association) also joined.</p> .<p>Yoga events were also held at 100 more locations, including schools and offices, in Mysuru. Over 1,000 students of the University of Mysore (UoM) performed Yoga at Gangotri glades.</p><p>The Union government, Karnataka State government, Mysuru District Administration, Mysuru Zilla Panchayat, AYUSH department, Tourism department, department of youth empowerment and sports organised the event. Yoga Federation of Mysuru, comprising Mysuru Yoga Okkoota, Bharath Swabhiman Trust, Mysuru Yoga Sports Foundation, GSS Foundation, SPYSS (Sri Pathanjali Yoga Shikshana Samsthe) joined Mysuru district administration to host the event. </p><p>The public function which was supposed to begin from 6am, began only at 7am; and the Yoga session began at 7.33am and concluded by 8.26am. Breakfast was arranged for participants. </p><p>Large number of people also participated in Yoga day events held at Hassan, Chamarajanagar and Mandya districts. </p>
