Pralhad Joshi urges Shivraj Singh Chouhan to address Karnataka's red chilli farmers' problem

New Delhi: Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Tuesday said that Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has assured him to help red chilli farmers in the state, who are suffering due to sudden price crash.

Joshi met Chouhan here and appraised the problem faced by farmers.

"Had a productive discussion with Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan ji, at Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi, regarding the welfare of Karnataka’s chili farmers. I thank @chouhanshivraj ji who has assured decisive step in this regard shall be taken" Joshi posted on X.

In his memorandum to Chouhan, the Food Minister urged the implementation of Price Deficiency Payment Scheme under Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for red chillies in Karnataka.

“Thousands of small and marginal farmers in Karnataka are dependent on red chilli cultivation and current fall in prices of produce has deepened their economic distress and pushed many of them into a debt crisis,” Joshi said in the memorandum.
