Prisoner ends life

The deceased has been identified as Prakash alias Puttappa Gurnavar (29) from Haveri. He committed suicide in the cell by hanging when all prisoners were out to take bath as per the usual schedule. A case has been registered.

According to his cell mates, he took the extreme step as he was inconsolable following the insult meted to him by the police officials on Saturday night. He was reportedly in possession of Rs 3,000 when the police team led by SP Prawin Pawar conducted a search operation in the jail. He had collected the money for the purpose of getting bail, they informed.

The SP and his team had recovered cells and sim cards during their raid from the inmates.
