Members of Udupi district unit of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) painted their bodies with black colour and protested against collection of toll charges for local vehicles at Hejamady toll gate on NH 66 on Wednesday.

Despite 23 days after the protest was launched, the deputy commissioner is yet to visit the place. To express ire, the protesters poured black paint over their bodies.

KRV President Ansar Ahmed charged that Navyug Construction Company had paid no attention to the demand.

“The road work is yet to be completed in Padubidri. There is no meaning in levying toll on local vehicles. Residents have been demanding exemption from toll charges,” he said.
