There were reports of rain across the State, bringing down the soaring temperatures.<br /><br /></p>.<p>In Dharwad <br /><br /></p>.<p>A 45-year-old shepherd and one of his sheep were struck dead by lightning on Gudenakatti street of Kundagol town of the district on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred when Basappa Sherewad was grazing sheep in his field at 2.30 pm. <br /><br />Roads were flooded in Hubli-Dharwad due to rain, accompanied by hailstones, for more than half an hour. Power lines were snapped when tree branches fell on them, plunging the twin cities into darkness. <br /><br />In Mysore<br /><br />A 35-year-old man was struck to death by lightning at Immavu village in Nanjangud taluk of the district on Tuesday. The incident occurred when Manju came out of his house at 9 pm to answer the call of nature. He is survived by his wife Shivamma and a daughter. Tahsildar Naveen Joseph handed over a cheque for Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation to Shivamma on Wednesday.<br /><br />In Koppal<br /><br />Ramanna Barakera, 19, died when lightning struck him at Chikkabommanala village of the taluk on Wednesday. A case has been registered at the Rural police station. <br /><br />In Bellary<br /><br />Shekhar Naik, 35, was struck dead by lightning when he was standing under a tree in his field at Kallahalli tanda of Hagaribommanahalli taluk on Wednesday. Strong winds blew away the roofs of more than 30 houses at Basavanadurga of Hospet taluk. Trees were uprooted at Hoovinahadagali.<br /><br />In Raichur<br /><br />More than 70 houses, including huts, collapsed in the heavy wind at Arashinagi village of the taluk on Tuesday evening. Four people were injured in the house collapse incidents. <br />The wind has also uprooted more than 12 electricity poles. The village was plunged in darkness as the power supply lines were snapped. <br /><br />On Wednesday, the residents were found scrambling for their belongings in their houses. Tin roofs of many houses flew away in the heavy wind. There was also rain for a brief period, villagers told Ashok Jahagirdar, the tahsildar, who visited the spot.<br />The demanded that they be provided houses under schemes like Ashraya and also monetary compensation. <br /><br />In Kushtagi taluk, Parashuram Bhajantri, 4, of Vanagere village was killed on the spot when a stone placed on the roof of his house fell on him during rain. A girl was injured in the incident.<br /><br />In Tumkur<br /><br />Rain, accompanied by heavy wind, was witnessed in Tumkur, Sira, Gubbi, Koratagere and Kunigal taluks of the district on Wednesday. <br /><br />The rain brought down the high temperature experienced in the district during the last three days. A car was damaged after a tree fell on it at Kuvempunagar in Tumkur city.<br /><br />In coastal districts<br /><br />The coastal districts of the State - Dakshina Kannada and Udupi - received copious rains on Wednesday evening, providing relief from the sweltering heat. <br /><br />There was heavy rain, accompanied by wind, in Mangalore at 5.45 pm. Surathkal, Bantwal, Vitla, Belthangady, Subramanya, Uppinangady and Sullia received moderate rains. Six people were injured when a pandal came down on them due to rain at Shaktinagar in Mangalore city.<br /><br /> Flooded roads threw traffic out of gear. With good rain reported in Subramanya and Belthangady, the inflow is expected to increase in the Netravati river and the water level in Tumbe reservoir is likely to go up. The water level in the dam stood at 9.1 feet Wednesday evening, up from 8.04 feet four days ago.<br /><br />Water supply had been stopped to MRPL and other factories, owing to the drinking water problem in Mangalore city. Udupi city received moderate showers. Some places in the district had received rain on Tuesday also. <br /></p>
