<p>Bengaluru, DHNS: While heavy rainfall returned to Malnad and Uttara Kannada district after a week-long break on Wednesday, torrential showers in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra continued to swell River Krishna and its tributaries in Belagavi district.</p>.<p>After a short break, heavy rains resumed in Shivamogga district with Mani in Hosanagara taluk recording the highest 109 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Parts of Sagar taluk including Sigandur and Ambaragodu and Mani and Ripponpet in Hosanagar taluk experienced heavy rains throughout the day. Shivamogga city also saw intermittent spells of rain.</p>.Relentless rain lashes Malnad; swollen rivers pose flood threat in Kodagu.<p>Parts of Kodagu, including Madikeri, Suntikoppa and Virajpet continued to witness heavy rain, coupled with strong winds. The hilly district is shivering under wet weather and chilly winds. Shantalli in Somwarpet taluk recorded 70 mm of rain while Srimangala in Ponnampet taluk registered 60 mm of rain.</p>.<p>Heavy rain lashed Mullayanagiri Hills and surrounding areas in Chikkamagaluru after a short dry spell. </p>.<p>Heavy rain, accompanied by gusty winds, battered the coastal and ghat areas of Uttara Kannada on Wednesday.</p>.<p>Meanwhile, unyielding showers in catchments of Krishna river in Maharashtra have swelled Krishna and its tributaries. Five low-lying bridges in Chikkodi division have again submerged. The bridges were opened for traffic four days back after the floodwaters receded.</p>.<p>With Almatti reservoir receiving heavy inflows, the dam authorities released over 1 lakh cusec downstream on Wednesday evening. On Wednesday alone, the dam received more than 7.4 tmcft of water. The reservoir, as on July 2, has 88.5 tmcft of water against its maximum capacity of 123.08 tmcft.</p>.<p>The Tungabhadra Board on Wednesday released 17,635 cusec downstream by opening six crest gates for two feet. The dam on Wednesday clocked an inflow of 32,767 cusec. The dam has 77.14 tmcft water as on July 2 and the Board has decided to store only 80 tmcft (as against its maximum of 105.78 tmcft) due to lack of strength in crest gates, which were not replaced since the commissioning of dam in early 1950s.</p>
