Ravi slams Congress over 3-category SC quota reclassification

Bengaluru: BJP MLC C T Ravi on Thursday accused the Congress government of prioritising political appeasement over genuine social justice for the masses. 

He attacked the government’s decision to reclassify reservation categories among Scheduled Caste communities. 

Addressing a gathering at the ongoing protest by nomadic and semi-nomadic communities at Freedom Park here, Ravi alleged that the policy was tailored to please a select few within the Congress party, rather than ensuring equitable justice for marginalised communities.

He directly named AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Social Welfare Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa and former minister H Anjaneya as key beneficiaries of this politically motivated decision.

“This isn’t about justice for the masses — it’s about pleasing three or four individuals in Congress. Their decision lacks transparency and is not based on credible data or logic,” Ravi charged.

Lashing out at the decision to divide the SC communities into three categories instead of the five recommended by the Justice Nagamohan Das Commission, the former minister questioned the basis of the move.

“Are they Sarvajnas (know-all people)? What is the basis for this classification? Census? Caste survey? Socio-economic study? What data was this based on,” he asked.

He said the government had not only ignored the recommendations of the Justice Das Commission, but also disregarded findings from earlier expert bodies.

“This government’s biggest achievement is spending Rs 112 crore and producing no results. Not only the Justice Das commission, this government ignored key findings from previous commissions, including those led by Justice Sadashiva and J C Madhuswamy,” Ravi said.

“They are behaving like Brihaspatis. If they knew everything, then why did they need the Justice Das report?”

Calling for immediate redressal of the grievances faced by nomadic and semi-nomadic communities, Ravi issued a stern warning: “Give a voice to the voiceless communities. If you don’t, history will not forgive you”.
