Karnataka: Revised calendar issued for state-run universities

Bengaluru: Following the delay in appointment of guest faculties for government degree colleges, the state higher education department has revised the academic calendar for undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the 2025–26 academic year.

The Department of Higher Education has issued a revised calendar of events for 25 state-run universities. This change will help over 3.2 lakh students in 440 government first-grade colleges across the state, who were affected by the non-availability of guest faculties.

This move is an effort by the department to compensate for the loss of days already faced by students in the absence of guest faculties. Each revised calendar differs from one university to another. For instance, the semester at Mysore University was originally scheduled from July 30 to October 23, but it has now been extended until November 22.

Similarly, based on the start date of the academic term at each university, the end date has been extended accordingly—some even from December to January 10, 2026. This extension allows students to prepare for exams with less pressure.

The Commissioner of Collegiate Education had submitted a request to the government to extend the academic term. Even various student organisations have demanded this change. Considering all these factors, the Department of Higher Education has issued a revised calendar.
