<p>Xavier's Research Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC), that ran the third phase of the campaign throughout January, says 555 authors and over 46 publishers across the country have signed the statement of intent supporting the need for providing alternatively formatted books and materials. <br /><br />In January it had asked anyone with a book title to his/her name (in any subject or language) or any publication to sign the statement that calls only for their support to the campaign's objectives. <br /><br />"The content covered in the campaign was of a full range," XRCVC has said in a press release on Wednesday. "It included Poetry, Literature, Law, Management, History, Sociology, Medicine, Social Development, Spirituality, Science, Economics, and Cookery."<br /><br />While the academia came out in large numbers to support of the campaign, the organisation has also said that several prominent authors including Arun Shourie, Alok Bhalla, Girish Karnad, Chetan Bhagat, Harsha Bhogle, Anupama Chopra. The organisations have asked the government to make necessary changes to the Indian Copyright Act 1957, allowing printed materials to be provided in accessible formats.<br /></p>
