<p>The residents of the villages on the banks of the rivers have been asked to move to safer places.<br /><br />Heavy rains in the catchment areas of River Krishna and its tributaries in Maharashtra, coupled with heavy discharge of water from dams in the neighbouring state has drastically increased water level. <br /><br />The outflow from the Rajapur barrage in Maharashtra was alone 2.27 lakh cusec. Discharge of water from Doodhganga dam, which was 4,000 cusec on Tuesday, was increased to 29,139 cusec on Wednesday. The outflow from the Koyna dam was also increased from 33,351 cusec to 41,559 cusec.</p>.<p>However, more is yet come. Officials said the situation could turn alarming by Thursday evening, as heavy rain was expected in the catchment areas of the rivers.</p>.<p>Bridges submerged<br /></p>.<p>Nine bridges and barrages in Chikkodi taluk, five in Athani, two in Raibag, including Kuduchi bridge, and one each in Gokak and Khanapur taluks continued to remain submerged. <br /><br />Four bridges and barrages were opened to traffic on Wednesday, after water levels receded in Hiranyakeshi and Malaprabha rivers in Hukkeri and Khanapur taluks, respectively. Deputy Commissioner Dr Ekroop Kaur said more boatmen from Karwar had been pressed into service to evacuate people from the flood-prone villages.<br /><br />Bijapur<br /><br />Though the water level in the River Bhima has receded, fresh rain in Pune has brought back the fear of flood.<br /><br />Following heavy inflow on Tuesday, all the 26 sluice gates of the Almatti dam were opened the same night to release 3.50 lakh cusec water. On Wednesday, another 3.34 lakh cusec was released into the river following an inflow of 2.80 lakh cusec. <br />The heavy discharge will continue for another two-three days. High alert has been issued in the villages downstream, they added.<br /><br />SH under water<br /><br />The discharge of three lakh cusec from Narayanpur dam has submerged Shahpur-Devadurg State Highway at Kolluru (M) in Yadgir district, affecting traffic.</p>.<p>Peculiar situation<br /></p>.<p>It is a peculiar situation in Bagalkot. Though there is no rainfall in the district, it is now facing flood threat.<br /><br />Rivers Krishna and Ghataprabha which are flowing above the danger mark have flooded the sugar cane crop in thousands of acres in Bagalkot, Mudhol and Hungund taluks.<br /><br />Woman’s body found<br /></p>.<p>A highly decomposed and unidentified body of a woman was found near the Chinchakhandi bridge in Mudhol taluk on Wednesday. Police who fished out the body, have buried it on the bank of the river. The body of a woman, who was washed away in River Krishna at Nagasampige in Bagalkot taluk, is yet to be traced.<br /><br />Village becomes island<br /></p>.<p>Nandgaon in Mudhol now resembles a island as the River Ghataprabha has completely surrounded the village. Boat facility has been provided to the village.</p>.<p>Traffic on Mudhol-Yadavada Road has been affected as the road is submerged by River Ghataprabha. Eight families were shifted to safer places after the river water flooded Dhavaleshwara village in the taluk. </p>.<p>The flood situation remains grim in Mirji and a gruel centre has been opened for the 42 families which were shifted from the village.<br /></p>
