Rural Livelihood Mission saw Karnataka govt spend Rs 2.1K crore to develop 3.6 lakh SHGs in state

The Union Minister of State for Rural Development Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani has informed Rajya Sabha that a total of 3.60 lakh Self Help Groups (SHGs) exist in the state and 9,115 in Dakshina Kannada.

These SHGs have total 42,07,374 members and in which 5,51,115 members belong to Scheduled Caste and 2,63,856 belong to Scheduled Tribes, he said in his reply to Rajya Sabha member Dharmasthala Veerendra Heggade question.

Under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) total Rs 1,266.26 crore released by the Centre to Karnataka and the state has spent Rs 2,172 core including its share since 2019.

DAY – NRLM is being implemented across the country (except Delhi & Chandigarh) with the objective of organizing the rural poor women into Self Help Groups (SHGs) and continuously nurturing and supporting them till they attain appreciable increase in incomes over a period of time and improve their quality of life and come out of abject poverty, the Minister said.

Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertiliser Anupriya Patel informed Lok Sabha that total 231 medical devices manufacturing sites have been approved in Karnataka under the Medical Devices rural 2017. The Minister said in his written answer to Haveri Lok Sabha member Basavaraj Bommai's question.
