<p>New Delhi: Sharat Javali, a Senior Advocate at the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/supreme-court">Supreme Court</a>, passed away here on Wednesday. He was 84 and is survived by his wife, daughter and son Kirit Javali, Supreme Court advocate.</p><p>Native of Haveri, Javali started practicing at the Supreme Court in 1964. Prior to that he practised in Bengaluru.</p><p>Sharat Javali had been representing Karnataka in the Supreme Court since the late sixties on various issues including inter-state water dispute.</p><p>He had his education at Mayo College, Ajmer. He was the Chamber Junior of Former Attorney General S V Gupte. He was recently bestowed the rare distinction of being chosen as a Fellow of the Sidney Sussex College at Cambridge University, England.</p><p>Javali has maintained a strong relationship with Cambridge University for over three decades. He is the grand-nephew of D. C. Pavate, an alumnus of Cambridge and a former governor of Punjab.</p><p>To honour his uncle, Javali established the Pavate Foundation, which includes a moot court and exchange program in collaboration with Cambridge University.</p>.Karnataka tech startups see funding dip to $633 mn in Jan-Mar.<p>Javali has represented Karnataka in several landmark cases including inter-state water disputes. He was the lead counsel alongside Senior Advocate Fali Nariman in the Cauvery, Krishna, and Mahadayi river water disputes, both in the Supreme Court of India and before various tribunals.</p><p>Additionally, Javali appeared for Karnataka in the Belagavi border dispute. His father, S C Javali, was also a designated Senior Advocate and practiced in both Mumbai and Bengaluru.</p><p>"Javali was a sharp legal mind and a man of great humility. His passing away ends the era of first generation lawyers from Karnataka who trekked to the Supreme Court in the early 1960s. Javali played a stellar role in defending the interest of Karnataka inter State water disputes from 1969 for five decades," senior advocate Mohan Katarki said.</p>
