Legislative council pro-tem chairman Basavaraj Horatti on Thursday said that he would hold a meeting with MLAs and ministers representing North Karnataka to discuss various demands of North Karnataka region.

"I will hold a meeting with MLAs and Ministers of N-K region. After the meeting, I will meet Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to discuss various demands of the N-K region," he told reporters in Haveri.

Horatti termed the demand of separate N-K state as absurd.

"Efforts will be made to fulfil demands of North Karnataka," he said.

Horatti said that free bus passes should be issued only to students of Kannada medium schools.

"Rich parents admit their wards at English medium school, while poor students study at Kannada medium schools," he said and added: "Decision to grant permission to commission private schools near government schools is wrong."

"Former Assembly speaker K B Koliwad should not have taken with him expensive government furniture while vacating his official bungalow on Crescent Road in Bengaluru. He should have paid for the furniture before taking them with him," he said.
