Advocate C Shashikantha has been appointed as the Assistant Solicitor General of India (ASG) for the High Court of Karnataka.

He will hold the term for a period of three years beginning May 24, 2018. Shashikantha will be taking over as ASG from Krishna S Dixit who was recently elevated as a judge to the High Court of Karnataka.

Shashikantha hails from Chippally village in Shivamogga district. He has been practicing as an advocate for last 35 years.

He was imprisoned for one-and-a-half months in 1975 for taking part in the anti-Emergency movement when he was a Pre University student. He was debarred from college for participating in the movement.

He had then filed a writ petition in the high court. Former Supreme Court Justice N Santosh Hegde and former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court M Rama Jois had argued on his behalf.
