<p class="bodytext">Advocate C Shashikantha has been appointed as the Assistant Solicitor General of India (ASG) for the High Court of Karnataka.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He will hold the term for a period of three years beginning May 24, 2018. Shashikantha will be taking over as ASG from Krishna S Dixit who was recently elevated as a judge to the High Court of Karnataka.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Shashikantha hails from Chippally village in Shivamogga district. He has been practicing as an advocate for last 35 years.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He was imprisoned for one-and-a-half months in 1975 for taking part in the anti-Emergency movement when he was a Pre University student. He was debarred from college for participating in the movement.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He had then filed a writ petition in the high court. Former Supreme Court Justice N Santosh Hegde and former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court M Rama Jois had argued on his behalf.</p>
